What is a Gear Motor

A gear motor, also known as a geared motor or gear reduction motor, is a combination of a gear system or gearbox and an electric motor. When asking yourself "what is a gear motor" or "what is a gear motor", you may actually be wondering how a gear motor can be useful for your company's products or production facilities. Geared motors are very efficient because you only need to install and operate one system instead of several.

It is sometimes inaccurately called a "gear motor", or even a geared motor. Gear motors typically combine a high-efficiency motor, such as an electrically commutated motor, with a gear reducer or gear head. These motor gear combinations are a great way to reduce alignment issues with the motor and its gearbox. You don't need to worry about sourcing the motor gear separately; instead, you can combine the motor and gear into one: a gear-driven motor.

What is the purpose of the geared motor?

Has your prototype motor slowed down? Have you considered this possibility? Gearmotors can be designed and integrated into a large number of applications. Whether your company needs motors with spur gears, reversible gear motors, inline gear motors, or even 3-phase gear motors, you can customize them from public suppliers. Since they are quieter and generally smaller than similar components installed individually, they can be used in a variety of industrial and commercial applications.

Whether you need a smaller 110v gear motor or something bigger than a typical 2 hp gear motor, it doesn't make much sense to buy and install a separate gear box for the motor you're using.
